Onnen Design was founded by Ashley Turner, an artist hailing from Nashville, Tennessee. She studied studio art at Carnegie Mellon University and Washington University in St. Louis, earning a BFA in painting. After graduation, Ashley began doing commissioned portraits of people, houses, and pets—most frequently dogs. She began designing for weddings (hand lettering, illustration, and styling) and fell in love with the world of stationery and gift design.
Aiming to develop a product range, Ashley decided to seek a masters degree in Entrepreneurship. She enrolled at Plymouth College of Art and relocated to England for a year. In the program, Ashley created illustrations and printed them onto products--silk scarves primarily, but also wrapping paper, stationery, and cushion covers. The theme of her work is most often flora and fauna, but she is also exploring heritage illustration.
In October 2016, Ashley graduated with distinction and moved to Boston, Massachusetts where she is currently doing a variety of commissioned work. Recent collaborators include the New England Historic Genealogical Society and Minted.com. Additionally, Ashley is preparing to launch her brand. Her products will be available for sale autumn 2017.
